HelpMeWalk – The future of 3D body scanning in orthotics
By Nicolas Pfaff, Nicolai Simon and Volker Bucher, HFU Research Centre Rottweil
Diseases of the musculoskeletal system can lead to functional limitations, which in many cases can be compensated for by
the targeted use of orthoses.
A new approach in the development of orthoses focuses on the use of magnetic sensors to record/map the anatomy.
The measuring electronics used for this purpose are coated using surface technology processes, making them washable and optimised for mechanical stress.
The use of magnetic sensors in orthotic manufacturing also eliminates the need for plaster, which conserves resources and contributes to environmental protection.
