An extract from the interview with Dr Morgan Madec

What is the technology behind HelpMeWalk?

To take the measurement, we wrap the foot in a bandage containing hundreds of magnetic sensors and place it on a plate, similar to an induction hob, which contains coils that generate magnetic fields. The magnetic sensors in the bandage detect the field generated by each coil in the “induction hob”. From these measurements, we can determine the position of each sensor, which then allows us to reconstruct a 3D model of the ankle. It is then possible to design the orthosis directly on the 3D model and print it, all with a single software tool.
